See Ya October

This has been an exciting month filled with crazy weather and fun visits! From scrapping ice off our windshields to breaking record highs, October has proven to be a little extreme (just like a Scorpio, oh the irony).

I am thoroughly enjoying it here in Amarillo. I love our morning show (Today In Amarillo) and my coworkers. I can honestly say I take joy in going to work each and every day. To have found that at such a young age, well all I can say is that I am very fortunate.

Keep this website in your favorites! I will be blogging weekly, periodically uploading photos and eventually videos. I just can't wait until Spring (severe storm season), don't worry I'll make sure to document my storm chases!

You can see the vast blue sky in this picture of the second largest canyon in the U.S., the Palo Duro. I love hiking this beautiful semi-arid landscape, it's completely different from any East coast hiking I've done.

Of course you run into a Texas longhorn or two along the way! Despite their innate gentle nature, this breed of cattle is a little intimidating in person.

Here's a few fun longhorn facts:

- They are the official Texas State Large Mammal
- They are the official symbol for the city of Fort Worth, TX
- Portions of their herds are kept at Texas Sate Parks (including the Palo Duro)
- A steers horns can extend 7 feet tip to tip

And what would the fall season be without some carved pumpkins? (I carved a record 3 this yr already!) To the right are the ones my mom and I did during her visit, go 'Canes! And below are the masterpieces Will and I made! (I am displaying quite the family of gourds outside my door)

Oh I just love autumn. I'm glad to be back in an area that has more than two seasons; hot and hotter (cough MIAMI cough). It took me awhile to get used to cold weather after residing in Florida for so long. Now I wear boots everyday and couldn't be happier!

Speaking of cooler weather, on the 29th graupel/snow mix fell for about 15 minutes. The winds were so strong that the system seemed to fly through Amarillo. So naturally I wanted to practice for Spring and went snow-chasing (yes a bit different than storm chasing, but exhilarating nonetheless). The accumulation showed up nicely on the Amarillo High School track, so my KAMR buddy Adam and I took lots of pictures. Some of which made air that night during the evening newscast! (I couldn't help but do some shameless self promotion...see below)
